The company behind the furry, oh-so-soft Ugg sheepskin boots has been awarded $686 million in two separate judgments in federal court in Chicago against websites selling counterfeit products. But Deckers Outdoor Corp. didn't hit the jackpot. The company, based in Goleta, Calif., acknowledges that it expects to collect a tiny fraction of the damages. The lawsuits were brought against more than 3,000 websites, and the operators of the rogue sites are in China, Deckers said. Errin...

Two suburban mothers hope to hit it big with a new decorative accessory designed to ride on the coattails of a hot holiday gift: Ugg boots. Boot Bop pins are the brainchild of Alyssa Glantz, a former schoolteacher, and Kathy Lazar, an interior designer by trade, who came up with the idea last winter while watching youth basketball in Deerfield. "We saw everyone on the sidelines wearing Uggs or shearling boots and said, 'Wouldn't they look cute with some pins on them?'" Glantz said.

Will the Minnetonka "Thunderbird" moccasin be the next UGG boot (while the UGG brand moves on to handbags and ponchos)? Nordstrom spokesman John Bailey hazarded that question when he told us that the mocs would be carried at the stores starting this month. Like Dr. Scholl's sandals and Sperry Topsider boat shoes before them, the mocs are returning from fashion exile. "I can remember my best friend wearing a pair of these in pink back in the '80s," Bailey said. For many, alas, it's the first time around.

Pottstown, Pa., school officials say they've heard them all: "Uggs get the boot" … "These boots are made for talking. " Headline writers have been tripping over the podiatric puns since Pottstown Middle School last week announced a classroom ban on "open top boots" — commonly known as the fashionably popular Uggs or Ugg look-alikes — as hiding places for cellphones, food and other contraband. A letter from Principal Gail Cooper posted on the district's...

Forget raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. To Oprah Winfrey, favorite things are way more high-end than that. Daphne Willis' full-length debut, "What to Say," doesn't come out until Feb. 9. Yet when we called the Edgewater resident, we found her in Nashville, already working on songs for her sophomore record. "I'm not wasting any time, really," Willis quips. Hopefully that forward-thinking attitude won't cause anyone to overlook "What to Say," a significantly soulful, Jason Mraz-ish pop record that sounds as if a horn section wandered into a coffee shop and decided to funk things up a bit. The poofy parkas with the North Face logo on the front and back are everywhere this winter, inciting passions normally reserved for sex, politics and the equally ubiquitous Ugg boots. Envy. Contempt. Remorse. The North Face parka stirs them all. "I find myself checking the upper-right shoulder when I see one to verify it is indeed 'The Coat,'" a friend e-mailed...
